That idea should work, although it would probably be more realistic to tone it down a little. *g* Maybe he's had a couple of previous wives that died under mysterious circumstances leading to some rather unsavory rumors regarding his reputation and tons of speculation as to what really occurred? If you're aiming for him to have a room like in the fairy tale, I'd suggest the deceased occupants to be serfs - no one usually cared what happened to the serfs unfortunately. :o(
