I like him about as much as I liked Senator Joseph Macarthy and Cato. They are all cut from the same cloth. Populist demagogues always pose as patriots; they are not. I cannot though, be too incensed about his acceptance of Persian gold; a great many Hellenes did the same thing when it suited them. You must remember that they were very parochial in their loyalties. The speeches of Demosthenes illustrate his character, but not as much as the speeches of Aeschines about Demosthenes. I hope you read them as well, they cheer one up.
