Ah, well, if we're going to share the works of great photographers, we cannot allow the link library to go long with having a link to The Great Adams, inventor of the Zone System of metering. Ansel Adams is by far my all time favorite photographer. The vast majority of his work was in done large format black and white ... and it's unbeatable (imho).

His three books, The Camera, The Negative, and The Print are still primary reference material for professional photographers. The Negative will tell you everything you ever need to know about exposures. They are amazing books and as I understand it, they're now available in paperback.
