This is rather belated news I'm afraid. This exhibition has already been to Los Angeles and is currently showing at the Dallas Museum of Art, where it finishes on 7th May so you have just a few days left to catch it there!! Thereafter it moves on to the Metropolitan Museum of Art on June 13th until September 10, 2006:

"A special exhibition that opens a window on the royalty and rituals of one of the world's most intriguing ancient civilizations. Lords of Creation: The Origins of Sacred Maya Kingship features more than 150 objects, many on view for the first time in the United States, including monumental sculpture in stone, polished jade figures and royal jewels, distinctive ceramic vessels, and carved bone and shell. SMU's David Freidel helped organize and write the catalog for the exhibit, which will also appear in Los Angeles and New York City."

    Information for the exhibition at:

  • The Dallas Museum of Art
  • Metropolitan Museum of Art

If anyone gets chance to see it, we'd love to hear about it! :)
