One of the hot discussions in many 3D forums has been the acquisition of Eovia US by DAZ and taking along with it the programs; Carrara and Hexagon.
I haven't used Hexagon, but have looked at many videos of the program and it looks to me like it may be a decent product. However, DAZ is now offering the program to its Platinum Club members for $1.99. If you are a club member, get the program.
If you are looking for a 3D modeling program consider buying a monthly Platinum Club membership. A month membership is about $30.00, so it'll cost you $32.00 for a $250.00+ modeling program and DAZ throws in a few content items when you join. Hexagon will be on sale till the end of May. The scuttlebutt I hear now is that the DAZ site is overwhelmed so it may be wise to wait a day or two if you decide to get the program.
I say consider because much like when DAZ acquired Bryce there is much talk as to what will happen to the program. DAZ has not done much to service Bryce since they bought the rights to the program. It is still the same program that Corel offered except DAZ has made integrating DAZ|Studio a priority with Bryce 5.5. So, you may never see another real update to Hexagon or may have to wait a very long time. Hexagon may fall behind other modelers like Bryce has fallen behind all the other renderers.
On the plus side, Hexagon was upgraded to 2.0 yesterday. So, you will be getting a program which has gotten a recent tune up by the original programming crew.... for only a small start up price.
Here is a link to the Eovia page for Hexagon 2 with more details about the program.
