Aleppo [Khalpe, Beroea, Halep] - is one of, if not the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. People have lived in Aleppo since 2000 BCE. In 64 BCE, the city along with all of Syria came under Roman influence. The city was a major trading outpost that connected West and East and was an especially strong center of commerce during the 1500s CE, when the city was part of the Ottoman Empire.
