    "Wazzzat?"

"To quote Aristotle, 'If everything when it occupies an equal space is at rest, and if that which is in locomotion is always occupying such a space at any moment, the flying arrow is therefore motionless'."

"Don't tell me you're going to start arguing Zeno's paradoxes again," I groan.

"Yes indeed!" the smart sandals chirp together.

"Imagine an arrow in flight," says the right sandal. "At every moment in time, the arrow is located at a specific position."

"This is true," I cautiously agree.

"Glad you agree!" the left sandal says enthusiastically and proceeds to explain Zeno's "arrow in flight" paradox. "If the moment is just a single instant, then the arrow does not have time to move and is at rest during that instant."

"I think you're reducing your argument to the absurd, but carry on. Just keep flying and mind the trees."

"Righto ma'am," says the right sandal and continues to elaborate. "Now, during the following instances, it then must also be at rest for the same reason."

"I see," I say, not seeing at all. "So what's your point?"

"Precisely this," says the left sandal. "The arrow is always at rest and cannot move: motion is impossible."

"Riiiiight," I say with no small amount of scepticism. "Okay, set me down gently in front of the cave and keep your thoughts to yourself while I deal with Cycypoo."

The Cyclops comes roaring out out of his cave to snatch me up, but I have the amphora of wine ready for him. He greedily drinks it down and promptly falls asleep. I ignite the sharp stick with the flaming torch and stab him in the eye. While he's rolling around the ground screaming, my smart sandals shoot straight in the air like an arrow in flight and fly me to our next destination. Illusion or no, I think my smart little philosophers are feeling a little unnerved by that last encounter.
