As you know, Sak, I'm pretty keen on this idea! :o) Because of the cross-influences of this area it's limiting to discuss the Maya completely independently without reference to their neighbours, predecessors and successors. There was especially a very important Toltec-Maya fusion, which we already partly touch on with the thread on Chichén Itzá.
I don't see it as reinventing the wheel because unless I've missed something somewhere none of the other groups cover the Toltecs, Olmecs, or Teotihuacan at all, do they? I can't right at this moment think of anything else to add to the proposed board but if I do you'll be the first to know of it! ;o)
