Winter birds in town
There are the blackbirds
noisily declaring the
late dawn
competing
with the magpies
and wild doves
in cacophonous shrieks.
There are great schools of sparrows
nestled in droves
on the same tree
noisily lifting the sun up
behind the winter clouds.
And overhead
the starlings gather,
in milelong gracefull loops
shimmering silver black
in synchronous rhythmic wing beats
making a swift noisy pass
on their daily way
to seed rich fields.
