In the Yucatan, there is a breed of honeybee that is stingless... the honey that it produces is extremely sweet... honey is used in the intoxifying beverage "balche"... intoxicating beverages are often used as means to commune with the gods and the ancestors. In Maya the word for honey and honeybee is the same "kab"... the word "kab" also means honey in K'iche'. Whether the diving god is also known as the diving honey god... I do not know.
