but instead notices her state of being half dressed. She holds out her arms for the shirt Beau is holding, and Beau quickly hands it to her. “Aye, that’s for you.” After the woman pulls it on, Beau hands her a mug of water with the vial of medicines the Doctor had left for her. “This be for you as well. Doctor gave his orders, he did, that you were to drink it all down.” Her dark eye’s don’t leave Beau’s for a moment as she drinks down the contents of the mug. Without expression, she hands the mug back to Beau. “Still thirsty?” The mass of red hair bobs once in assent, and Beau refills the mug with plain water. “Here ye are.”
The woman keeps her peace as Beau continues to ask her simple questions such as her name and what ship she was and how it came to be wrecked. Before long, the woman’s eyes close again, and she falls asleep without imparting Beau with any intelligence about her.
The ship’s swaying from the waves she’s riding shortly lull Beau to sleep as well.
Beau is rudely awakened by the Doctor roughly shaking her by her shoulder. “Beau, when I give you a task, I expect it to be completed. Or was it too hard for you to do?” he asks, his voice dripping sarcasm.
“But I gave her the medicine!” Beau declares in her real voice. Catching herself, she coughs and adds in a deeper voice, “She drunk that and another mug of water. But she did’n have nothing to say bout herself. No matter what I asked. Not a peep.”
The doctor stares as Beau, having caught the change in her voices timbre. “That’s something, isn’t it,” he begins after staring at her a while.
“Look, she’s awake now!” Beau declares and points to the dark eyes peering at both of them through the mass of hair. The doctor promptly turns his attention to his patient, which is what Beau was hoping for all along. Boy, is it ever hard to act like a young man. Much harder than Bea expected at the onset of her adventure.
The Doctor breaks into Beau’s worried thoughts. “You may go Mr. Mayden. Go tell the Captain that his passenger is awake. I am sure he will want to come down and have a chat with her.”
Beau hurries from the cabin, and scampers up the ladder to the deck. She is momentarily blinded by the sudden bright sunshine after being below in the darker cabins, and it takes her a few moments to get her bearings. She hurries up to talk to Captain Morgan, and he promptly goes below to check on the castaway, leaving Beau topside to enjoy the sunshine, and to watch Johnny Sparrow at work with the sails. He is such a fine looking man…
