I must have written this post a thousand times in my head, and a hundred in Word, but here I am, winging it like I usually do ;) This took a long time to decide upon, and I have discussed it with numerous friends. All of you are (quite naturally, lol) skeptical about my course of action, but most of you are willing to give it a try as well.
Therefore, I am here to announce that The Roman Republic is reopened - offsite. The Roman Republic (Version II) can be found here. As I am frequently doing during these lulls and intermissions, I am redrafting the rules. However, this is a complete overhaul - not minor adjustments or additions here and there. I am trying to make the game more of a game, while keeping it relatively simple (we don't want a one hundred page novel of rules to read before we even get started!), and more friendly to roleplayers.
I'm sure, for those of you that have continued reading (I'm sure I lost the attention of more than a few at the mention of 'offsite'), that you have many questions. I will be honest now - I don't have all the answers, yet. However, I am nearing completion on the rules. Right now TRRvII is open for Roleplay posting. I hope to open it for financial gaming (trading, buying property, etc) within the next week, and for full on gaming by the end of the month.
There are a few things I do know, however, that I hope might provide a comfort to you all:
1) The game will be opening up in the last year of Sulla's life - approximately 8 years before the opening of The Roman Republic here on AW back in August of 2003. This means that everyone will start anew (as of this posting, only myself, Sullas Cornelius, AeneasIulius Romulus, and Catulus Aemilius have joined up - all with never-before-seen personas), with new PCs. A clean slate for all!
2) A clean slate for all means that no inheritences will be processed, etc etc. It also means that all those players who have had bad experiences with RR in the past, along with those who have been 'banned' from RR, are welcome to join again.
3) Credit will be given to players of RR, Imperium, TRE, etc. This includes, but is not limited to, monetary bonuses (in-game), cursus honorum considerations, and more.
Now, the one change that most players will notice right off the bat is the historically accurate naming conventions that must be used. Historically accurate tria nominae are mandatory! Some considerations will be given, but are ultimately decided by myself.
Now, the issue of RR here on AW - the group will remain open, however no posting will be tolerated. The group is to remain open as an archive of events that occured in 'version I' of TRR.
And finally, one last plug - visit The Roman Republic (Version II) today!
