I believe the Tocharians, whom the Chinese called Yu Chi were of Celtic origin. When the Celts were driven South by the Nordic and Germanic conquestial migrations, one group of them left Europe behind and became Steppe Nomads, Traders and Empire Builders. They moved East and South to Bactria, Sogdia and the Ferghana Valley gateway to the western regions of China. There they lived as a unique element, until they were assimilated, in the enormous and varied Horse Peoples of that vast region. Some of their graves have been found, complete with items for the next world and red hair on the desert preserved corpses.
Their red haired kind persisted right up to the times of Chingiss Khan. Their red hair genes marked him and perhaps contributed to his incredible stamina, resourcefulness and military and organizational genius. He had reddish brown hair. His family is said to be of the "Borchicoun", a clan that lived isolated, somewhat, in a lonely valley in the Tien Shan Mountains just West of the Gobi Desert. The red hair strain was prevalent among them. Perhaps the last of the Tocharian group of the Celtic migrations.
I wonder what became of them? Was Temujin their last bright representative on the Steppes of Our Mother Earth?
Respectfully submitted, MacJon Cruithni of Celtia.
