Leander Callicrates had been in Rome just two days. He was expanding the trade of his city Massilia. Already, things were working well with the trade to the new settlements in Gaul. This next year should see the profits rising. This year, only a small profit was shown, but it was expected. His personal agreement with Caesar had also worked out and should see a rise in profits for the two of them in the coming year, too. Business, though, would have to wait a while yet. The entire city was turning out, or so it seemed, to witness the arrival of the Queen of Egypt Cleopatra. He, too, would seek an audience with the queen. A combination of both business and personal. His son Andreas was attending the Musee of Alexandria at the hospitality of the queen. As he sat at the desk in his rented villa, he took paper and pen in hand and began to write.
“Gracious Queen, I, Leander of Massilia, request the honor of an audience. I wish to discuss a business venture between your country and my city. I also seek news of my son Andreas, who currently enjoys your hospitality.
“Leander, Archos of Massilia”
Calling in a servant, Leander gave him the letter with instructions to deliver it to Queen Cleopatra.
