While I am not licensed to dispense legal advice, I believe it is safe to say that the United States position on foreign copyright is as follows: The US grants reciprocal copyright protection if the nation of publication is a treaty partner with the United States. Therefore something published in the UK in 1924 receives as much protection as a work would had it been published in the US in 1924.
