If the sources are true about what Alexander's last words were, surely it then begs the question "If Alexander realised there would be a war for power following his death, why did he not spend more time choosing a successor and making sure that that choice would be supported by his generals?"
Did Alexander not see a viable contender and therefore left his generals to pick at the scraps that his empire would become?
Or was Alexander cementing his own legacy of greatness by making sure that his massive empire did not out live him?
