Unfortunately, the folks in Juarez wouldn't know if something was Maya or Martian, they are just trying to market a product. The piece of sculpture that you bought is most likely a copy of the Aztec or Mexican earth goddess giving birth. It isn't a Maya piece at all, at least that's what I can tell from your description. I would say it is either Toltec or Aztec. I hope you enjoy it, it sounds like a great piece and you seem very happy with your purchase.
