I am getting together a *kit* to participate in the Hastings 2006 reenactment. I have a seax with a 12" blade and a short spear. My protection (as a common "ceorl") is a round, leather-rimmed shield with central steel boss, and a helmet of steel with a mail aventail. This last piece is uncommon for a warrior of my class; but as I am middle-aged, I figure it came to me years ago either via a trade or from some battle booty that has stayed in the family. When I get everything together, I will post pics on my home page. (This might be a while yet, as I have leather items and my soft clothing items still being made for me.)
