... has most emphatically NOT been in my dreams lately.

My uncle never warned me about a short life, only about an unhappy life, spreading unhappiness on those I love. I yearn for a warrior's death - will I get it? I have lived my life as best as I could, trying to give back to everyone their due, and paying for my mistakes. I hope I do not leave unsettled scores. I think of things that could have been and others that could not, but I hope I did my best about it, by being always true to myself.

Sweet Brighid, whatever happens, I am thankful.

Then I give myself to the Morrigan.

No warning is necessary. I rush wholeheartedly into Amlaidh's suicidal attempt at escaping. I grab the soldier trying to kill him, so enraged that I am close to snapping his neck when Verica runs him through, almost snagging at my clothes with the point of the spear protruding from his back. Far from being scary, it is exhilarating. I glance at Amlaidh in delighted surprise, baring my teeth in a voiceless laugh.

I pull the spear from the corpse. A weapon in my hand once again! The ceaseless pounding inside my head only adds to my battle-lust. I stand close to the others, all senses alert to the next move. Will it be ours, or the Romans'? Whatever it is, now I will fight for my princess to the bitter end...

Yes, she is my princess too, now, after what we have been through together. And even if we get out of this, my end will be bitter in any case, seeing them go on to be happy, while I will resume my wanderings. Nonetheless, I stand proud and blood-hungry alongside my princess, and my love.
