Must we display our own work for review in order to critique others?

I will not be displaying my work here, but would love to assist others. There are several reasons for this. I write complete garbage being one point. The biggest reason being that I write fanfiction. In fanfiction, the author is not required to write any character background, personality traits, relationships between individuals, or any information on the environment. All of this is already known by the reader.

With all the authors on this board I find myself nervous about posting. :) So here is my disclaimer: this post has not been reviewed by my beta.
