We used to live down the street from a batik factory and they would actually let you go in and watch the whole wax to dye process. There is also an awesome batik gallery there where you can see sample art here:

As an aside - if you read down, you'll notice that this gallery is located in a place called Batu Ferringhi in Penang. That is the section of the island that was tsunami struck. Honestly, I do not know if it was affected or not, but the art is gorgeous!
