The Greeks were the Barbarians in relation to Egyptians and their other mesopotamian neighbors. They acquired wealth and culture through trade and pillage. What made them to evolve in a society which enable the growth of philosophy? Their peculiar political structure? If so why then philosophy did not arise in all the Greek cities, why Athens and her colonies above all?
