The 'talks' had been going on for over a month now, and Balbus Minor could not wait any longer. Though he knew he might be punished, he didn't care. He gave a note to a slave and found himself a horse and galloped for Rome.
Caesar had forgotten him in a quiet back room of the house, and would probably not even notice his absence.
The note was given to Caesar who read it:
Caius Caesar:
I know you will be angered by my decision to leave. Know that I am not fleeing your judgement. I am only going to Rome to await it. I must see my uncle before you no doubt have me executed or exiled. Please continue your talks without worry. I will be waiting for your word.
