Welcome
Pax Inter Pares
Peace Between Equals. Caesar has crossed the Rubicon, but Civil War did not erupt. Caesar and Pompey stand together against the Republicans. In this alternative Rome, who will come out ahead? Or will anyone? You decide.

"We need gravel and lime, for concrete. Large paving stones, as well. The usual construction supplies. Stop by Lugdunum one day and I shall give you a true list." Caesar looked at his friend, apparently struggling to keep awake.

"Leander," said Caesar, "Let me close my business with my friend here." Leander grinned amiably and left.

"Magnus," said Caesar friendly, "I have a light proposition for you."

    Pompey rolled his eyes. "What?"

"Dont look so downtrodden, you old man. I guarantee it will benefit you. And the cost: negligible."

    "Nothing is negligible," said Pompey.

"Free is." said Caesar with mirth. "I propose you let me expand my courier service into your provinces. In fact, the ability for us to do something jointly like this will display our friendship quite well, I think." Pompey looked concerned. He wasn;t sure he wanted to advertise something like that. But then, what could the Republicans do?

"What do you need me to do?" he asked, seemingly conceeding. "And what do I get out of it?"

"You, my military man, get excellent speedy communications throughout your provinces. And beyond, for that matter. All the way to south Illiyria I have extended it. However..." Caesar began reaching for a chunk of bread.

"No you don't Caesar." said Pompey grabbing his wrist. "Finish your sentence. I hate when you do that."

Caesar chuckled, "The impatience of youth."

Now Pompey grinned, "I am YOUR senior, young man." Now they both laughed.

"Only in trips around the sun!" Now Caesar was howling. He relaxed, then continued: "Sorry, Magnus. The catch was that the construction of these is best done through soldiers. They have the experience necessary with these types of structures. So, either some of your legions will be out of commission building them, or I send one of mine to do the work. What do you think?"
