in the spring of 356, Philip colonized
the Tracian town of Crenides and re named it Philippi. the town
which had been founded by Thasos had appealed to Philip for help
against Thracian aggression. He accomodated them at once, moved
in a lot of Macedonians and began to work its famous mines on Mt.
Pangaeus which had yielded yielded both gold and silver for some
years. His kindness at once increased his income 1000 talents a
year in precious metals.
