Watching the events with growing frustration, I stand as if rooted to the spot. One by one those I have sworn to protect are tossed about at the whim of this monster. The one strength I could contribute was taken from me in Mananuan's hall.

Images of the Baoisgne wars come back to haunt me though I struggle to keep them away. Like then, I am again helpless to keep destruction from my people. Within this darkness though, a small spark of hope still resides.

Siobhan's words ring in my ear once again, "When the time comes, remember, not all of a warrior's weapons are judged by their size, what is inside may have more strength than looks would suggest," and I remember her gift. Taking a deep breath, I finally accept the fact that there is nothing I can do myself alone, but that I must rely on others and on things outside of my control, things unknown.

I pull Siobhan's silver knife from my belt. At that moment I see Agog's eyes spark as the eyes of a hunting cat when it spies its prey. I falter briefly, at once both doubting this small weapon's ability to protect and unwilling to relinquish my hold on it in the hope that it might.

brush these fears away with a surge of confidence and in one sweeping movement I slip the silver blade from the hilt and hurl the weapon toward Agog. The battle cry issuing from my throat makes even the hairs on my own neck stand up. All my energies combine with those of my companions and the warriors who have gone before, transforming the small knife.
