Agog turns and Mai quietly steps forward. Brandubh's body has continued on towards Agog's "castle". Mai hopes that continuing the distraction of Agog will keep her brother-of-the-heart safe.
Until now the spaewife has been silent, motionless, seemingly disinterested in the harm this creature has done to her friends, her companions, her family.
In reality, Mai has been gathering herself, preparing for her moment. She knows she must be confident, unafraid. As she prepares to cast her spell, Agog changes form, shrinks, becomes different. It is him. A wordless cry escapes her lips. All of her life she has dreamed of one who would complete her as no other could. Dreams that made her feel a restlessness, a longing that she knew somehow would never be fulfilled. Yet, here, now, in this place all longing seemes to be filled.
"You. You are different." Agog's words are flat, hard as a stone.
Mai's chin lifts in defiance. "I am who I am." Agog roars his laughter at this impudent chit.
Mai's face remains clear, placid, yet her brain is working furiously. A spell she knows doesn't have to be spoken out loud to be effective. No matter what she sees, the land tells her truth of Agog.
He feeds off of the pain and suffering he causes, off of those who came to serve him in his power and were enslaved to his insatiable appetite. If the land were able to take back that energy however, his power would be much less and the land would be healed.
Carefully she continues her spell in her mind. She "sees" the life force flowing from Agog in a thousand tiny streams to the land, to Arwen, Eldrich, Jacas, Saoirse and Brandubh. Each stream so small as to be unnoticeable except in their overall effect.
"Ah," Agog says, "You can be so much more if you would only let yourself be."
"You think I am evil, but I am not," he coos seductively to her, moving closer to her. "You interest me. I could teach you so much. You would be able to do almost anything you desired, including saving these pathetic fools." His voice is oily sweet and hypnotic in it's attempted seduction. "I could make you a fitting consort for myself, if only you will agree."
Mai can feel his breath now, hot and honeyed. His offer is most tempting, for she wants desperately to save her friends and companions from this monster.
Her silence brings fresh offers. "Stay and I will free all of them. Stay of your own volition and I will restore Brandubh and rest. Stay with me and be my queen."
He smiles in his glory confident this puny mortal will be under his sway of her own desires in a matter of moments.
"You must know that this is only way to get what you want. You can't defeat me, certainly not here."
Mai's clear gray green eyes widen and she smiles. It is the gracious smile of a queen to a fellow sovereign. "When eternity ends will I join you. When Sidhe and UnSidhe are one will I join you. When the Dulhe's truth dies will I join you. When my love of my family turns to blackest hate will I join you!"
From her throat comes a single note, pure, clear and clean. Wild and strong the note and spell it contains winds around all within Jacas's shield.
To Eldrich, it gives peace and restoration of self. For Jacas, it is a reminder of the home he longs for and the lady therein. For Saoirse the song seems to be about her children and her fierce love for them. Arwen hears the knowing that her reality is her own to control. Pol hears throb of protection for all and Siofra hears call of the fields, longing to be planted.
And most of all to Feargus Mai calls, to the Warlord of the Nialls, the chief of the Tuath for his strong arm to protect the Nialls, one and all.
