From L. Caesar quae. to L. Cimber quae., greetings!
If you are well, I am well. What is this I hear, you are getting married? Congratulations! I am told that at least on the lady’s part, there seems to be some affection, I hope she wins yours, or she has done so already.
How are things in Egypt? From my letters it is probably the only place in the world where things are actually happening: a praetor kidnapped, a rebellion stopped in Alexandria, a bigger one about to be addressed in the south… My letters, however, are old, and I am eager for your own writings.
Macedonia is quiet, indeed too quiet for my taste. I’m beginning to think there is something the matter with this place and we may be living in a different universe, where nothing happens. The praetor has left to round up the last recruits we need and oversee their training. The consul meets with his closest advisors, or sees the sights. I read reports and write dispatches, I take care of the accounts, I gather as much information as I can about troops, tribes, fleets, trade, but am missing the most vital reports. Marsius says to be patient, so I am patient and at night hop into bed with a beautiful woman and give way to the energy I have not spent during the day.
Be well, and write.
