This month was originaly known as Kronion since on the 12th day, in thanksgiving for the harvest safely gathered in, a feast was held in honor of Kronos, Zeus' father, and his wife Rhea, the Mother of the Gods. The kronia brought masters and slaves of every family together in a gay and uproarious domestic banquet. The festival also had a public, and national side. On the 16th of the month was celebrated the sacrifice of the Synoikia,
which recalled the synoikismos accomplished by Theseus with the inauuration of Attica's unity and Athenian power.
