This was a very important event. It formed a second thatrical season after the Lenaea, and attracted large numbers of foreign visitors to Athens. The winter storms were over and the ships were again sailing the Aegean. This magnificent festival was second only to the Great Panathenaea. It lasted for five days. On the 9th there was a dithyrambic contest. On the 10th came the comedies and on the 11th to the 13th came the tragic trilogies, each were followed by a satyr-drama.
