OOC: Please pardon my grammar as it's been a very long time since I've had to write Latin. LOL And here we go:
Caius Fabius Lupus, client, friend and proxy for Lucius Julius Longinus, presently serving as quaestor in the province of Bithynia et Pontus, stood before the Assembly and spoke,
"Citizens of Rome! We stand at a critical point in our glorious history. We are preparing major campaigns in both Egypt and Ilium, to put down rebellions. The generals of these campaigns and the illustrious Senate has called on the gods to smile on Rome and to grant us victory. But how can we ask this of the gods when we don't give them the honor they are due?
"Yes, that is right! We are not honoring the gods! How can we when all the positions of the Flamines are vacant? There are none to honor the gods in their own temples! And we dare to ask the gods to look favorably on us? The arrogance we show in doing this could very well bring the gods disfavor on us and defeat on the battle fields. No, my friends, we cannot ask the gods to favor us until and unless we first honor them!
"And how can we do this, you ask? Well, for one we can all put in for a position as a flamine to one of the gods. Don't wait for your neighbor to do it," here Caius pointed at random individuals, "YOU put in for it! And you, and you. All of the flamine positions are open to both patricians and plebians except for three! The Flamines Dialis, Martialis and Quirinalis are only for patricians. Well, fellow citizens, I say that we are no less respectful of the gods than the patricians.
"Therefore, I would like to propose the Lex Julii de Flamini Romani. Wherein ALL of the Flamines positions are open to BOTH patricians AND plebians and REGARDLESS of marriage ceremony. I see no reason why a plebian cannot honor the gods as well as a patrician.
"What say you, people of Rome?"
