Porcia sat up curled up on the floor, next to her bed. She had in her hands one of Peter's books, a collection of Greek myths. It was one of her favourites, especially more so since it had been one he had used in teaching her how to read. Some of his many books were just a few of the things Porcia had to remember him by. His mother wanted him to look nice for his funeral, but Porcia didn't really see the point if half his head was already blown off anyway. Something in the corner of her mind moved, and she jumped. Mr. Howell was there, just staring at her.
"You were speaking to yourself in German again."
"I'm sorry..."
"You should be more careful. I want you to lay out a nice suit for me; we will be going to dinner and then I shall be going out for the evening."
Oh? She thought, and what will that leave me to do? "Yes, Mr. Howell." She just responded.
"I want you to look nice too. And smile please; or else I will have to tell you one of my old jokes."
"Anything but that!" She laughed aloud.
"Good! Then if you'll excuse me..." She watched him wheel out of the room and just shook her head.
