Helped by Hyde, he ushered me towards my bedchamber, where he ordered the guard on duty at the closed door to go in search of the witchdoctor.
“But Sir, he has traveled to the Helvetti lands in search of herbs and remedies, he wont be back for several days!” the guard reminded him.
“Gods be damned!” Hyde admonished under his breath as he kicked open the door to my bedchamber.
As we steeped into the gloomy interior where we found two startled women on my bed. They stared at us with fright.
“Off!” Hyde ordered them, and they clambered from the bed and stood together in the far corner. The smaller one cowering uncertainly next to the darker one who composed herself with a fearless stance of confidence.
Had I lost complete control of my faculties or did I not recognize these two women that were curled up on my bed like two lovers.
As I was sat down upon my bed, I lent on one elbow and whispered to Hyde, “Do I know of these two women?” I asked confused.
“It is your betrothed, my Lord.” He answered without judgment of my forgetfulness, but now I remembered she was to be here on my return.
It was my duty as the Lord and her future husband to formerly greet the young woman to the clan, even though I was in no condition to do so, I stood and eyed the two. One was older and frumpy, yet seemingly braver in stature, but the other although apparently at the moment timid was by far the more attractive of the two. She leant closer to the older lycan and whispered something.
I smell blood, Kirra!”
The older one nodded and replied with a concerned tone, Yes, but I also smell silver!”
I stood, an action which startled the younger of the two women into putting all her attention upon my movements.
“I am Vladimir Vendelici, Lord of the Clan Vendelici! Which of you would be my betrothed?” I asked with authority.
The older one nudged the young one forward with her elbow, but one step was all she took toward me.
I stepped to her and could see it was all she could do not to back away from me, and when I took her hand in mine I could feel her tremble, and smell the fear of flight gradually building within her veins.
I bent at the back whilst holding the wound with my other hand.
“Welcome to the Clann, Lady Silures!” I stated as I placed a gentle kiss upon the back of her hand, but upon standing straight again I felt faint and collapsed on the bed.
Hyde ran to my aid and the girl lycan backed away to the relative safety of her friend.
“Lykaios, go get my bag from the horse, he needs tending too immediately!” She urged.
The young one named Lykaios slowly made her way past without taking her eyes off me, and as she went I watched her lithe form and stunning beauty fade behind a curtain of darkness as I blacked out to the sound of Hyde’s concerned assurances murmuring into the distance of unconsciousness.
