RUN FOR ROMA
OK, this is the roughed out schedule to date, still subject to some fine-tuning. Please note; sometimes I have an idea of a general subject for at least one post - but everyone will have about an hour, so you can certainly do more than the one shown!
Remember, all times listed are Eastern Standard Time. More than one of us has trouble with that. Check your time frame – otherwise, some poor Roman will be twisting slowly, slowly in the wind waiting for you to show up! Everyone probably knows by now – the signals must be given before you can start or stop.
The runner before you, when ready to hand over, will post
PASSING THE TORCH (and where, like “Ostia” or “Campania”)
The runner picking up will post:
PICKING UP THE TORCH (in wherever)
This will help Julilla make sure our twisty route is shown on her wonderful home-page maps.
ROME RUN 3-30-02
At midnight (or perhaps before), Jot will “throw the switch” to permit only Romans to post. The last Tarans scheduled – names of Lela and/or Conor - will pass off by then at the Rubicon River. Since nobody will be around much at that hour and later (the torch, presumably, hanging in mid-air), the first scheduled runner is
8:00 - 9 AM Anticus Cornelius runs from the Rubicon to Campania [subject of posts unknown as yet]. That’s a long way, Ernie – good luck! Hands off to Aulus Sergius in Campania somewhere – pick a town!
9:00 – 10 AM Aulus does Aquaducts (that sounds disgusting), traveling to _______to hand off off to Tiamo Domitius, again somewhere in Campania. Aulus, can you also pick a place for a hand-off spot?)
10:00 – 11 AM Tiamo runs from wherever he picks up from Aulus to Brundisium handing off to Cornellia Cornellius.
11:00 – NOON Cornellia Cornelius picks up from Tiamo at Brundisium and, being a demigoddess, hares back over to Pompeii [article on Pompeii] She’ll hand off to Tobius Tullius and Calpurnia Horatius somewhere between Pompeii and Capri – being negotiated as we speak.
12:00 – 2 PM Tobius Tulius and Calpurnis Horatius will take the torch to Capri. Articles about Capri and surrounding areas (2 runners, 2 hours; if that’s too much, let me know)
2:00 – 3 PM Fabia Valerius will meet Cal in Capri and fly or swim to Sicily, where she will cover the entire history of that island in I Roman Hour, flying back to the Bay of Naples to handoff the torch to Jo
3:00 – 4 PM Josephia Flavius will pick up from Fabia at the Bay of Naplesand write about Naples and a bit of the Amalfi Coast, ending in Sorrento to meet her hubby.
4:00 – 5 PM Strabo will pick up from Josephia at Sorrento and does Cumae. We had planned to do the handoff in Tuscany, but we’re short on ideas in Tuscany. An alternate suggestion has been made to Inaras of Ostia – still under discussion. Wherever, Strabo hands off to Inaras Junius.
5-6 PM Inaras Junius takes from Strabo and will do an article to be determined, handing off to _______ (not yet scheduled)
6:00 – 8 PM – AVAILABLE POSITIONS, applications accepted! (Stilo? Skyros? Traj? FeAudrey? Cappy?)
8-9 PM ___________hands off to Heraklia in Veii (article – The Etruscans)
9-10 PM Somewhere near the outskirts of Rome, Heraklia hands off to Julilla Sempronius – article anything she pleases.
10 PM – Julilla hands off to Jot Ariston, our Vestal (Ceres) and our official Poet Laureate (Senex Caecilius) at 10:00 P.M. Torch in the Temple of Vesta lighted
