Portrait of the Merchant Georg Gisze by Hans Holbein the Younger 1532 (painted on oak) - Gemäldegalerie, Staatliche Museen, Berlin.
This falls into the Northern Renaissance (1500-1615) than Renaissance per se.
What can you cay about a work like this! Magnificent stuff - I like the guarded, reserved expression. Holbein has always been a favourite and not just for his ability to paint - its realism is remarkable not that that is its main claim to fame - composition, colour...you name it. Just remarkable!
