Leaving the room after announcing dinner, I find myself puzzling over what Achillas meant when he said "his master". I now know who he meant, but why? Has he worked for Hadrian in the past? And is he still working for him in some clandestine manner? It has made me rather suspicious of the man, given my Lady's situation. I must have an answer from Achillas. If he does not speak true, then I shall talk to Lady Varilla about it.
I take the tray of food for the first course back to the dining area. The wine has been poured and everyone is seated comfortably. I am so wrapped up in my thoughts that I am not paying attention as I go through the doorway. My elbow hits the side of the entryway and I nearly drop the tray. Achillas deftly helps to catch the tray and keeps the contents from spilling over. My elbow stings with pain.
"Dia, are you okay?" Achillas asks.
"Yes, I am fine," I state more curtly than intended.
I ignore the pain in my arm. Achillas gives me a puzzled look then begins to help me serve the food.
