In 1613 there was a fire in the city of Dorchester which apparently was blamed on a chandler named Baker who was boiling tallow and spilled it, setting fire to his home, which spread to the other buildings in town, many having thatched roofs.
Some reverend there took this to be a sign from heaven of God's displeasure with the lukewarm religious zealotry of the populace. This led to Dorchester's becoming the most Puritan town in England.
Now, I am uncertain what document I'm supposed to list as a result of this fire.... anyone else want to try to answer that part? Or does Nellie want to give another clue? Like a date of the document? *S*
