Fa Ngum's son Phya Ounmuong was born in 1356 and ruled from 1373 to 1416, taking the name Sam Sene Thai for the 300,000 Thai males counted in the census of 1376.
He reorganized the military but encouraged Buddhism and avoided war, sending only two expeditions to subdue Chiengsen.
