Translated by Robert Eagles is the best translation I've ever come across of the epic. I was writing a speech about Heinrich Schliemann and I did some background research using the Homeric poems. If you liked Odyssey- (why they make people read this instead of Iliad first I'll never understand) then you'll definately like the Iliad. Of course, it's main character is Achilles, whereas in Odyssey, the main character was Odysseus.

Men are haunted by the vastness of eternity. And so we ask ourselves: will our actions echo across centuries? Will strangers hear our names long after we are gone, and wonder who we were, how bravely we fought, how fiercely we loved?
