From the sounds of most I don't think I want to read them all!
I was just going to post something on the capital punishment of being hanged, drawn and quartered... which sounds tame and simple compared to some of these other devices!
Being drawn and quartered was introduced in the 13th century ... it was sort of like "aggravated execution". Instead of just being hanged, the unlucky soul was taken down before he dies on the gallows, then has his torso cut open, his innards pulled out (while he is awake and alive), then his limbs are cut into pieces and sent to various parts of the land for exhibition. Plus his head.
Edward I "Longshanks" is famous for implementing this punishment to rebels... the first most famous rebel killed in this manner was Davydd ab Gruffudd, a Welsh Prince. William Wallace (Braveheart) was later.
