I just saw this film (1967) for the first time last night. I recognized the soundtrack, which mainly uses Mozart's Piano Concerto 21 - most would recognize it from Bugs Bunny cartoons too! The music is divine, naturally, but the film?

I have mixed feelings about it, mostly negative. The lovers irritated me. They were so involved with each other that they shut out the real world and consequently they ended up almost starving to death. DUMB! I wanted to yell at them, "Hey, why don't you sell brooch and the gun and move to America, where no one would know you and you can find a JOB???"

The cinematography is gorgeous. The woman, a young Swedish actress, was riveting. They were both very attractive. Yet their self absorption was maddening.

I almost put this under the Dung Heap thread. But I think the film is too visually beautiful to do that. So I refrained. I also googled the story and found out that it was true. There is a haunting quality about the doomed lovers which redeems the film... but the went to college part of my brain still makes me roll my eyes when I think about them.
