The Beacons of Gondor were not something that I had really thought about when reading the books - certainly, their impact on me was minimal.
The same could not be said of the beacons in the film. Jackson created a breathtaking, epic sweep along the mountain ranges. Sometimes people concentrate on the things that the film could not do, but this is something visual from the books that is made into a wonderful spectacle that has an immediate and impressive impact.

Inevitably, film will not be able to bring to life some of the elements from the book that we love best. But film has its own qualities, and the illustration of the lighting of the beacons demonstrates the strengths of film in telling the story in its own way.
