Seems like round dancing is a native american tradition which has now become something which is done for, and with, people of other cultures. It is a dance of friendship, which makes it all the more poignant.
At the Sho-Ban festival each year, there is a ceremonial grand entrance at the beginning. But at the end of all the dancing and drumming (groups come from all over the US and Canada) there is a round dance in which all the audience is invited to participate. It is fantastic to see people from many tribes as well as non-native people all dancing together having fun!
