On the fringe of the battle, Bronwyn wipes her sword on the tunic of the Niafer dead at her feet then stands to take in what's going on around her. As she moves to re-enter the fight, a hand grips her by the ankle in a surprisingly strong grasp for a Cumhaill she thought was dead.
Bronwyn kneels beside Maines, bringing her head close to his moving lips. Hearing his words, Bronwyn turns just enough to see for herself what Maines is telling her. The deep, jagged slash crossing his abdomen means a slow, painful death under the summer sun.
Much as she loathes to carry out his request Bronwyn knows it's the right thing to do. She gives Maines' hand a reassuring squeeze then takes the dagger from his belt. Bronwyn leans down to whisper in Maines's ear, "Today you die with honor," as her hand plunges the dagger into Maines' heart.
Wiping the blade in the grass, Bronwyn returns it to Maines' belt then standing, she turns and walks away to take on another foe.
