The whole Tenochtitlan (capitol city of the Aztecan Empire) were conmotioned for the 'Ritual of the New Sun' honoring Huitchilopostli god of the sun (and other things),if the sacred fire was not set in the top of the main pyramid every 52 years,the mentioned god will be offended and he will deny the light of the sun to earth forever after.
All the citizens of the city must be doing penitence and fastting,and they were suppose to pinch their tongues and genitals with the sharpy thorns of the huisache cactus,as an act of repentence for their sins,Princes Totonqui was on her way to the main temple she was worried about the terrible pains of the sacrifice she was expected to do,nude at the higher place of the Temple she was to pinch her own privated parts with the mentioned thorn and be shown bleeding to the crowd to encourage them to chastise their flesh bravely,her litter arrived to the Temple,her 100 men personal guard opened a path so she could walk to the the temples stairs,up there was the High Priest ready to get her blood in the sacred bowl.
Her father Cuautli Balam looked just too serene for a man that has just suffered such torture,but he has blood on that part of his body,she was encouraged by him to be brave,she was uncladded right there and started climbing the stairs.
On the High Place of the Temple the Priest made a deep reverence to her,priests would only do it to the highest rank pochtecas (Nobles) She was not even given a thorn the priest himself asked her to get ready,she was pinched by him and remained silent as a proud princess,"milady" said the priest "Huichilopostli is expecting your pain and screams like any other woman,I beg thee" the god was very democratic,she screamed loud as the second and third pinches came the people outside the temple were aplaudding her courage,but then the Priest stoped he took just a bit of her blood and rubed the delicated part with potion for wounds and she stoped bleeding then he spilled calf blood on her privated part and asked her to keep yelling.
"The god requests less sacrifice from the Pochtecas milady,go down I beseech thee and show thyself to the crowd, tell not about this,keep the faith of the people"
As she goes down and the crowd aplauds her sacrifice her father smiles,the god was content with a little of their blood,but on that same evening much more blood will be shedded from the Masehualis (peasants) who volunteered for the human sacrifices and the slaves taken at war.
