However, Plato had a lot to say about what Socrates had to say. Socrates was born at Athens in the year 469 B.C. His father was a sculptor named Sophroniskus and Socrates followed the same profession in the early part of his life. He had the usual education of a young Athenian citizen, which included not only a knowledge of the mother tongue, and readings in the Greek poets, but also the elements of arithmetic, geometry and astronomy as then known. Few circumstances of his personal life are known, though much is known of his philosophy. We know that he credits Aspasia, the mistress and then wife of Pericles with teaching him rhetoric. What say you, will we include Aspasia as a philosopher of Athens?
