I hope you don't mind me butting in to this conversation. There are many people who are new to this subject. I think if you split everything and in to chronological areas relating to subject area, many new comers may find it very complicated to understand. I would try and make it simple. Instead of splitting areas in to time difference why not for now split discussions in to names people have heard about, such as the Neolithic era, Paleolithic era or Nethandraal peoples etc.
You could then discuss what the people were like in Neolithic era, what the environment was like, did they bury the people, what tools did they use etc. With in the discussion era you could say somewhere for example Neolithic period lasted for [X] amount of years (you would have your dates) and recorded sites have been found in country [A], but in [A] country the people differed in burial techniques to those living in [B] country and the environment was completely different in [A]. This would make it easier for people to understand. People would find it more enjoyable to click on a name that they know of rather than a number.
Maybe when people know more you could then split it in to chronological areas. But for now I would simplify everything.
Or another idea could be to do a table as a reference point somewhere for all to see, similar to that of the evolution of the planet that is studied by Geological students. I used to have one for human evolution (which was photocopied) but I binned it a few months ago, with the paper I was using concerning the examination of the evolution of the brain unfortunately I needed to clean up my room which was over flooding with paper and documents doh! The library might still have it, the timescale was very readable, and I think you would like it. If not I am sure Google could find us one.
