"So, they have finally seen the light. It would have gone better for them had they surrendered two months ago, when their position was clearly hopeless. I lay this judgement on the Aetolians:
"Mercy was offered and rejected. Instead, you Aetolians gave way to bloodlust, and slaughtered civilians in Delphi. A price must be paid. 300 Aetolians, including the officers and any leaders of the repressions in Delphi, are to be put to death. For the other 4500 Aetolians, they are to be immediately sold into slavery."
Aside to a tribune, "comb through the ranks of prisoners and find me 10 men of low moral fiber who are from the city of Naupactos itself. Make a deal with these men: they are to help us, provide as much information as possible about the city, its fortifications, its preparations, etc. If these men help us, they will not be sold into slavery, but set free at the end of the campaign with a horse and 10 D each to make a new life. I realize their information might be somewhat out of date, but they should at least be able to give us a layout of the city."
"To the city of Delphi: Delphi fell to the Aetolians many months ago almost without a fight. Clearly Alexander Issus had help within the city, had collaborators working for him. Find me the surviving leaders of the rebellion last month. These men must help us identify who among the Aetolian garrison was responsible for the repression, and thus who will be executed. Further, these men should help us identify collaborators with Alexander Issus. 10 estates around Delphi will be seized from those who collaborated with the enemy.
"All booty from the captured garrisons will go to the troops. Additionally, I will donate 1000 D to the troops to help make up for the lack of plunder.
"Send scouts out west into Aetolia proper, and send a message to the Macedonian commander. One we finish putting the Delphi region in order, the combined Roman-Greek army will march into Aetolia and put an end to this war once and for all."
Summary: 300 Aetolians executed, 4490 sold into slavery, 10 bribed (100 D total). 10 Estates seized (cost of 800 D), 1000 D donated to troops.
