    I'm also trying to find information on how the Japanese (before the Georgian calendar and especially in Heian Japan) counted their hours. In one book, a novel of feudal Japan, apparently the hours are measured just like the calendar - i.e. Hour of the Rat, Hour of the Cow, etc. - but I'm curious as to the details now of how they measured their time.
