Do you remember how Juliette Binoche felt in love with a guy with a turban and a marvellous long hair? Well, he was a Sikh!
The uncut hair and beard is called Kesh. The turban stands for the crown of spirituality.
Kesh makes part of the five "Ks".
The other four "Ks" are:
Kangha - a wooden comb to properly groom the hair as a symbol of cleanliness
Katchera - specially made cotton underwear, reminds the commitment to purity
Kara - a steel circle, worn on the wrist, signifies bondage to Truth and freedom from every other entanglement
Kirpan - the sword, reminds the committement to defend the Truth
Wearing the Five "Ks" means one belongs to the Khalsa, a spiritual brotherhood and sisterhood devoted to purity of thought and action.
